Obituary of Raymond George Green
Raymond George Green (The Bear) was born on June 2, 1951 at Bath, New Brunswick and died peacefully at the Oromocto Hospital on August 13, 2016 at the age of 65. He was a long-time resident of Lakeville Corner, New Brunswick.
He is survived by his beloved daughter Brittany Green of Fredericton and Lakeville Corner, N.B., his brothers Eddie (Cathy) Lincoln, N.B., and Terry (Patty) of Lakeville Corner, niece Kelly and nephews Marty and Mike. Erin Bridges and Jessi Gallagher also held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Francis (Martin), and infant sister April.
Many residents of Fredericton knew Ray as Corporal Green, of the Fredericton Police Department. He served as an NCO patrol officer, headed up the drug section, street crime and was a Detective with CID. He retired after 25 years with the Department. Ray loved the country and enjoyed hunting, fishing, & boating. He particularly loved telling stories to kids about the ‘ghost pickerel’ and then taking them down to the lake to fish for the legendary monster; or hunting for the elusive ‘side hill gouger’, who unfortunately never did make an appearance.
Known as the ‘unofficial Mayor of Lakeville Corner’, Ray enjoyed it when friends dropped by … even more so when they arrived with guitars and sang some vintage Country tunes.
On his 50th birthday he was presented with a feisty baby donkey named ‘Harmon’, who quickly became a close friend. Two more donkeys soon arrived.
He also loved his dogs Muffin, Scottie and Chubby. They enjoyed long lives and lots of treats.
Over a number of years Ray suffered health issues that curtailed his enjoyment of life and ultimately lead to his passing. Brittany would like to thank Donna Lee McGraw who helped to care for him over the last two years of his life.
Many thanks also to the Physicians and Nurses at the Oromocto Hospital who gave Ray great care and compassion. Special mention to Dr. Bea Sainz who was Ray’s physician for many years and who helped him to accept his medical condition. She is an extraordinary person.
‘Won’t you sing me back home, with the song I used to hear
Make my old memories come alive
Take me away and turn back the years
Sing me back home before I die.’
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation to Portage Atlantic Rehabilitation Centre (Portage.ca) be considered as a way to honour his memory.
