Obituary of Gerald Joseph Blackier

The death of Gerald Joseph Blackier of Hardwood Ridge, NB occurred on Friday,July 8th, 2016 in Saint John, NB. Born in Minto, NB he was the son of the late Emile Melanson and Ida Blackier. Gerald loved his family and had a passion for playing musical instruments, singing and writing songs. He performed at the playhouse, on CBC Radio, at many dances and countless benefits. In 2011, Gerald was inducted into the Minto Country Music Wall of Fame. When he wasn’t playing music, you could find him enjoying the outdoors on his atv, taking care of his horses or woodworking with his favorite dog by his side. Survived by his loving wife Phyllis (Blizzard) Blackier; sons, Junior Blackier (Joanne) and David Blackier (Charlene); daughters, Brenda Rideout (Trevor) and Marilyn Blackier (Vinny) all of Minto, NB; canine companion, LuLu; a sister, Lucy Robichaud (Willy); several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his daughter, Lucy; granddaughter, Toni Marie and brother Arthur. In keeping Gerald’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 2:00PM Monday, July 11th, 2016 from the Minto Community Chapel (10 King Street, Minto). For those who wish, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
