Obituary of Bartlett Russell McLean
McLean, Bartlett Russell (June 24, 1948 … December 9, 2013) passed away at the Oromocto Public Hospital after a lengthy period of declining health. Bart was the son of the late Burtis and Roberta (Gilchrist) McLean of Cumberland Point, NB.
Bart spent his early years growing up on the farm at Cumberland Point. He graduated from Coles Island Rural High School and the NS Institute of Surveying in Lawrencetown. He had a 20 year career in the surveying industry which took him to Newfoundland, Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Alberta, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick until failing health forced him to retire. The highlight of his career was working at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Plant.
Bart had a lifelong passion for cars, boats and his camp on Grand Lake. He enjoyed traveling to visit cousins in Boston, as well as taking vacations to Vancouver, Bahamas, Florida and other points south. Bart was gifted with the McLean’s dry sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes.
Besides his parents, Bart was predeceased by his only sister, Lynne (McKenelley) Farrer. He is survived by brothers, Bob (Carol) McLean and Reid McLean of Cumberland Point as well as his ‘favourite’, niece, Gina (Sean) Galway, Vancouver, BC, and nephews Corey McKenelley, Vancouver, BC, Josh McLean, Fredericton, NB and Jeremy (Diana) McLean, Yarmouth, NS. Bart was especially proud of his great nephews, Dylan and Jordan Galway and Jeremy’s son, Tyler.
The family would like to thank the staff of North Minto Residence for the great care Bart received during his stay; Bob Carle for his friendship and the staff of the Oromocto Public Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.
Resting at Hogg Funeral Services (43 Main Street, Chipman, NB) with visiting on Wednesday evening from 7-9pm. Burial at Cumberland Point Community Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or charity of the donor’s choice.
