Obituary of Kathryn Elizabeth Chapman

The death of Kathryn Elizabeth (Stilwell) Chapman of Minto, NB occurred Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Hospice House Fredericton. Born in Cambridge Narrows, NB she was the daughter of the late George and Jean (Turnbull) Tissington. Mom grew up at the Narrows, later moving to Saint John, then settling in Minto with her family. She enjoyed younger years with her family at the Narrows and with her Grandparents David and Catherine Turnbull on their farm, where they had many chores they were expected to do. The Turnbull/Tissington families prided themselves with hard work, and it truly rubbed off on mom as her house was spotless and so were her vehicles, like her father George and his brother Fred Tissington who drove the cleanest Coal Trucks! Mom, with her sister and soul mate, Bunny, and her brother Bernie, shared many wonder times together through the years. Mom’s first job in Minto was working at the Bank of Nova Scotia in the Accounts section due to her impressive recollection of account numbers. This is where she met her first love, Art, who frequented the bank for Legion business, being involved with the Minto Legion as a WWII vet. They married in 1955 and started their family immediately. Mom endured many trials and tribulations with her families on both sides over the years that made her a force to be reckoned with. After Dad’s passing, mom found love again, marrying Jim Chapman, and had many wonderful years together. They were such supportive parents and couldn’t ask for better grandparents to all of her grandchildren. And mom was able to enjoy her one great grandchild. Mom was a wonderful counsellor to our friends in our teen years as we heard this often, and she loved crafts but her greatest talents were bowling and darts and the many trophies around the house were proof. Her love of dancing and her social time with her many friends, was evident in her collection of pictures, especially with June and Charlie Coakley and their family. Mom loved life until her disabilities halted her activities. But she will always be remembered as the “strong” (or with her Scottish blood – stubborn)” woman she was, She was loved by all who knew her. She will be forever missed. Survived by her son, Kim Stilwell (Nancy); her daughter, Carla Carney (Rodney); grandchildren, Melissa, Talia, Logan, Kendra, Brandon, Hillary, Katelyn, Christopher, Troy and Jason; great grandson, Jack; sister, Roberta “Bunny” Armstrong; sister in law, Judy Tissington; stepsons, Terry Stilwell and Rodney Chapman (Karen); special friend, Billy Buffett; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Kathryn was predeceased by 1st husband, Arthur Stilwell; 2nd husband, James Chapman; daughter, Jocelyn Boucher; brother, G. Bernard Tissington. Resting at Hogg Funeral Services (10 King Street, Minto) with visitation on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral Service will take place 1:00PM from Trinity United Church on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Internment will take place in Wallbridge Cemetery at a later date.
