In the 80s I was fortunate to travel to Hessle, UK and hang out with Mel. He introduced me to a couple of wine bars in the village and then we ended up playing snooker where he easily beat me. We had some common interests including cars and introduced me to RC cars and planes. Later in the 90s he visited Canada and came to Burlington and Ottawa. I think he really fell in love with Canada at that time and eventually lead him to bring his wife, Junko, to NB. We will greatly miss his humour and RC plane stories and of course the mountain bike and canoe adventures. Initially we were worried about him surviving the NB winters, but he really embraced the outdoor life. A tremendous loss. Condolences to Junko, Chris, Jen and in the UK, Linda and Pearce family.

To my friend that got me hooked on Mountain Biking, RC planes and MTBM Trails, I just want to say thank you for that and being my friend. Miss you and until we meet again. P.S. if there are Mountain bikes and RC planes there save me one of each. Joanne and I want to send condolences to the family.

Goodbye my life-long friend. So sad the 'adventures' have come to an end far too early. I could not have wished for a better, kinder or funnier person to have shared my times with. You have left so many people a wealth of happy memories through your enthusiasm for life and fantastic sense of fun. So grateful we were able to remain in contact to the end.
Sincere condolences to Junko, Jenny, Chris and also to Linda and the Pearce family.
Love, Alastair (Ali), Sarah, Andy, Tom and Barbara Brown xxx East Yorkshire, England.

I am extremely saddened of the news. Mel from what I experienced was the prime example of a role model. He helped me, he made me laugh, he was kind, he was stern at times of course - but that is what makes a good man. I will forever remember the memories which I have with Mel. One of my favourites being when he prevented a mechanical malfunction in my Subaru ( and saved it ) .
Mel was a great man and send my dearest condolences to the family.

Dave Wright...Yorkshire.England.
My thoughts go out to his family today!
I knew Mel from the age of 8 and what happy memories I have of him...he was the most loyal and funniest friend anyone could ask for...we lost touch partly when Mel moved to Japan..but Mel was happy and contented with life atlast. He told me he was moving to Canada with his family...now I really wished I taken up the offer to visit them all in Canada...Take care my friend and hopefully we will meet again...Dave

We are so saddened to learn of Mel's passing. He and my husband Gary worked together at the mill. Mel took him under his wing and they became fast friends. Life is so unfair. Sending hugs to you all.
