To John's family. I have never met any of you, our loss. I emailed John a year, 2 years ago about the family (Argall). I am John's cousin 2x removed. His favorite picture was of our gr grandfather William Wallace in Trois Riveres in ca 1880. a blacksmith - John shared the picture and I had to agree wonderful picture. To Johns wife what a wonderful write up! I read that and I know I would be laughing too hard! He sounds wonderful.
Please accept my thoughts and prayers to you and your family. He is happy and healthy now, waiting for his family.
Now I understand why John never got back to me. All is well.
Please take care Elizabeth Argall-Andrews Dartmouth, NS

I was just recycling business cards from the early 2000s and came across John's from BioAtlantech, so I had to Google him to see where 20 years had taken him. So sorry to read of his passing, yet the wonderful tributes here on this site tell me that John remained the WONDERFUL guy that he always was, and that he touched many other lives in addition to mine. I can add nothing to what has already been written, except to say that through a number of phone calls, emails and two great in-person meetings (one at Bio 2002 and one in Fredericton) I was fortunate to know John a little but. I am grateful, and if I am ever in Fredericton again I will sit on the John Argall bench and think fondly of him.

Mes plus sincères condoléances à la grande famille de John. J'ai eu la chance de connaitre John via le travail et oui, John était spécial. Une personne qui prenait les choses à cœur et qui y mettait le tout pour y arriver. Je garde de très bons souvenirs de John.

I was not acquainted with John nor with his family, but like others here, I must compliment you on the beautiful tribute to him. It says a lot about the nice people who loved him, too. So glad that you experienced so much laughter together.
Blessed are those who mourn, since they will be comforted.

Thankyou Marion for this wonderful commemoration of his life. and all the wonderful comments of everyone one who new him, many of whom I got to know through John and BIONB. I feel like Tim, as I read through this I smiled, chuckled and cried......there was no finer individual than John Argall. He was a gentleman in everyway - he would have fitted in well in Victorian England with his snappy clothes (Tartan Blazer) and his mannerisms. I have been a part of those uncontrollable laughing sessions - so much fun. I will never forget his old truck and his canoe, the truck going on to live more life with another contact from BIONB (Bryan Pelky). Those were some of the best years that I can remember, all the trade shows we travelled to and all great team that John surrounded himself with. And anyone who spent any time in his presence new the name Marion as he spoke of her often. Then when Marions mom came to live with them all the great stories and the respect he had for her. He could tell a great story with such detail you felt like you really knew the people - and he usually found a way to make those stories amusing. He certainly knew how to see the funny side of things. Thinking of it all brings a warm feeling into my heart and makes me smile. I cant believe he's gone. He will be missed by many. We are all a little poorer with his passing.

John Argall was my boss in Fredericton when I left New Zealand in 2000 and joined him at Solanum Genomics as Research Director. John was a warm and generous man with tremendous wit, and someone with whom I had way too many interesting and fun conversations on science, and life in general. I have many great memories of working with him, and I was very saddened to hear of his passing. I wanted to share a couple of my favourite pictures of John. Following the birth of my youngest daughter, John hosted a party at his house for the BioAtlantech staff (2001). The kitchen picture is from that event, while the other picture is John holding my daughter (Nieve) in the office. John, you will be missed by so many. RIP good sir, I will cherish my memories of working with you.....

What a wonderful tribute, Marion! I laughed out loud and dabbed a few tears. The first client meeting I had after I started with the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program was with John. I’m not sure exactly how it came about but it took place in the driveway of my parent’s house in Fredericton, where I was staying while house hunting in Saint John – he may have offered to drive me home from my French language training, which sounds about right! The meeting was to discuss the state of the biotech sector in NB but what I remember talking about was family, swimming, looking for a house, the trials of moving, etc. There may have been work stuff discussed – I have no idea. John created such a warm environment at BioAtlantech that when I went to meet with him, it felt more like visiting friends and family than any sort of work engagement. I can remember looking across a table at him during meetings – big and small – and wondering, “is he concentrating or is he trying to stifle a laugh?” I think it was usually the latter. John touched so many and will be missed by so many. The world is a lesser place without him. Rest in peace, my friend. My deepest condolences to Marion and John's family.

John was a friend and colleague to many of us at BioAtlantech/BioNB. We continue to tell stories of his antics that remind us of his light-hearted and gentle nature.
He is dearly missed by all of us.

Marion my thoughts have been with you and I offer you my deepest condolences. What a beautiful tribute and spot on. I teared up but I also smiled reading this. We definitely had our giggles together -real belly laughs. As a fellow Quebecer I will always remember John gifting me with a harmonium cd which I still listen to at full blast when I have a Quebec “moment” and John always pops into my mind. Always kind always thoughtful - I will never forget the tulip bulbs he left for me and told me “to plant them and when they popped up in the spring it meant they survived the winter and so had I”. I’ve used that gesture several times over the years”
I shall pour myself a glass of red wine, crank up harmonium and smile thinking of some great memories.

I had the pleasure of working for and with John for over ten years. He was an amazing boss and would often have me laughing until I cried. John always said that we would retire together and he would then proceed to imitate me as an old woman saying, "BioAtlantech, Bonjour". I am sending my sincere condolences to Marion and Joyce and to the rest of John's family and friends. He was a very special person and I am glad that I had the opportunity to spend as much time with him as I did.

John was a great swimming buddy. I so admired his love for his mother in law, Irma and have fond memories of him making espresso on the beach at Kilarney for Terrie's birthday. Sincere sympathy to Marion and all of John's family. Rest in peace, John.

Just a few memories , a photo of one of our first trips with my dad, one on the trails with a friend, picked a Christmas tree with your wife for the house, enjoyed glasses of wine outside in the early spring, went to an ocean front cottage in early summer and you played with my grandchildren You are deeply missed and remembered each and every day! It was my pleasure to have been your caregiver for the past 4.5yrs but your finally free from an illness that trapped you and in your own words I’m sure you are saying “ thank f#%k” that suffering is over! Have a drink with my dad in heaven ❤️ He enjoys a good wine. You’ll be forever loved by us all Holly, Brandy, Mark, Ben, Laura and Wanda Walker
